DESCRIPTION:
International Day Against Nuclear Testing is an awareness campaign created by the United Nations under the Resolution 64/35 on December 2009. This day calls for awareness and information about the effects of nuclear weapon explosions, the need to stop them and the goal to have a nuclear-free world.
Initiated by the nation of Kazakhstan, this date coincides with the closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test site on August 29, 1991.
On this day, there are educational events and messages that keep the world enraptured and informed about nuclear weapons.
The 1996 Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty is the international body that should have put all nuclear testing to rest.
However, this treaty has yet to be implemented.
